Mel, You just dont get it. You can defend Pipeline companies and big oil all you want but wthout some type of meaningful Regulatory oversight, they run roughshod over good people time and time again. Did you already forget the pipeline spill on the Yellowstone River in July. Recent reports have found potential problems at alwost every pipeline river crossing; those spills do wonders for drinking water; The execs at ExxonMobil drink Evian and don't care. There was a little incident called DeepWaterHorizon not too long ago too. That really helped advance oil exploration didn't it. You would be the first to jump all over the Government, well a Democratic Government anyway, if it happenned again.

Term Limits...don't get me started. Wasn't that the cornerstone of the "Contract with America"...Once elected, that wasn't such a great idea was it? The incumbent gets to build up a war chest and even in those rare cases when they lose, they hold onto the cash.

Mel, The USA and OBAMA are such a hostile environment that our Corporate Kingdoms had another record year of profits. We put such huge obstacles in their way and we are so unfriendly as to allow GE and others to pay zero taxes. We bend over backwards for these bad ass entities and they only complain with crocadile tears. They get all the advantages and then they complain about high tax rates(which they do not pay any of)... That's is real hostile environment. Big oil company buys up a US pipeline and announces immediately it is reversing the flow of oil in the pipeline and exporting the oil we so desperately need at home; that is a real hostile business environment, isnt it? I'd love to send them all to China or Russia and see how long they would last there

Ah ... Good old America .. nobody wants to say no, nobody wants to be the bad guy. Parents afraid to tell their children they can't afford the unlimited texting plan, or the $200. prom dress, or they cannot vacation at Disneyland this year.
Corporate Execs are the only ones willing to say no (well only to the little people) not to themselves. They say no to investment in the USA, they say yes to investing in China. They say no to jobs in the USA, even with billions in extra cash

Only six days left to Deficit reduction talks or Automatic cutbacks across the board will be instituted. It is hard to imagine how 6 Ds and 6 Rs can come to any agreement given all the time and effort that has already been expended by both sides.
The blame game is in full force on both sides, R blaming D and D blaming R; no surprise there.
Last week they were trying to insert accounting gimmicks like the end of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in place of real savings, that seems dead this week.
Both R and D want bolder reduction plans with more bite and long range effect, even though they cannot agree on this small (1.2 Trillion ) reduction plan, hmmm?
I think most on both sides will be happy to let the automatic reductions kick in so they don't lose face or have to explain to Lobbyists or Constituents why a particular program has been hurt.
Republicans don't want to yield on tax increases or pet defense spending items. Democrats don't want to yield on increasing the Medicare age to 67 or reducing SS Cost of living increase or raising taxes on the rich and super rich.
If they do nothing, automatic cutbacks of 1.2 trillion will kick in and the Bush Tax Cuts will expire in another year anyway.

Eliminate Corporate Tax loopholes ... and you can easily lower the tax rate
Eliminate Income Tax Looholes and you can do the same
Herman wants to lower the rate and keep his favorite loopholes...not a recipe for success

Don, You act like this is a democrat problem. When you start to give "Your" side a pass and just deflect the blame to one side you are perpetuating the problem.

They focused on one of my favorite peeves. The lack of control on influential members of Congress. If you are working on Energy Legislation, you are allowed to trade in Energy stocks. If you work on Healthcare legislation, you can trade heathcare stocks. If you are on the Banking comittee you can trade in Financial stocks. Is it any wonder that members of Congress can make money in the Stock Market while the rest of us languish.
If you are dealing with Lobbyists for Chase Manhattan, you may take a job with them next year. If you are on the Armed Services Comittee you can work for a Gun Company when your term is up. If you influence which company gets a trillion dollar contract to make stealth bombers or aircraft carriers, you guessed it....
It is no wonder we have the best Government money can buy or that most Companies complain about the High Corporate Tax Rates in this Country, while they are paying NO taxes, while they are getting Tax breaks for shipping jobs to other Countries, etc.
And the nerve of these weasels, When Nancy Pelosi or John Boehnner is asked to explain why they made lucrative stock trades while working on impending legislation, they appear all huffy and want to turn the tables. How dare you accuse me. What are you implying?, Me take advantage of my position.
If we continue to permit our lawmakers to profit from their positions, if we allow them to attend events that the rest of of have to pay thousands of dollars for, if we can even get the tickets...all I can say is you get what you deserve. Change the rules and you can get some semblance of fairness and decency back into America.

Postage and handling is my pet peeve too. When we watch those infomercials, I always say to my wife, If it's free shipping I'm buying!

Congrads to all of our vets. I'll enjoy watching it. Great topic of my time on earth
Lot's of friends went over. Most of my friends made it back. some with emotional scars. some with substance issues, some okay
My cousin Donald had a ball on his first tour of duty(Marines) and went for another year in Nam rather that DI at lejeune; wasn't so lucky the second time around; things deteriorated and organization/leadership was lacking; lots of Fubar, lots of incoming shells and crawling up each other.
Timing is everything inn life; if you weren't born at the right time and on the right side, you can't be part of the Greatest Generation. C'est la vie Charlie
