So anyways a couple years or so ago I bought a collection that had a lot of faceting material and equipment. I sold all the equipment, I still have a lot of rocks left and no idea about them.
At any rate there were a couple boxes of books. I decided to keep most of them you never know what info you may find like I found a place not too far from here where pink celestite specimens are found and some of which are in the Smithsonian. I have yet to check it out but I will.
So i'm going thru this stuff and come across 'Faceting for Amateurs' 4th edition. I've seen earlier editions go for around $100-$200 or so and thought well i'll never facet my as well sell it. Well I don't know what's going on but if you can even find a copy of this book on the net it seems to be priceless, as in thousands of dollars.
What the hell is going on with this are all the sellers nuts or what? I'm not going to post my search on it I thought some of you may know about it or would like to do a quick search of your own and see what you find? I'm not complaining i'm just wondering what the heck is up with this book did they only print 10 of them? LOL.

BTW I didn't read your link but i'm assuming it was how romney would handle the situation when the gov't shuts down due to debt? This wasn't a lucky guess it was a mathematical calculation that was easily seen as completed no matter who got into office........Romney would've blown it on much of the same and more so on military.
The big difference is there is no difference these bastards are all a big joke and I have plenty of history to back it up.
We need to wake up.

Romney was/is a sack of shit. I like your current 'negativity' of our situation but to suggest Romney had been our savior is, to say the least, insane.
Get a grip bro. This goes way past dems vs. repubs. I've personally known politicians perfectly willing to swap parties just to get votes. We need people that are out for us not the big guys.
I'll be honest........I think we are way past the point of voting in anyone that fits our needs. We are a 'civilized' society and because of that we've been getting screwed behind closed doors for years.
"No......we are civilized we don't need any stinking revolution"..............and just look around.
Some people should've had their asses blown away along time ago.

A bigger one a lil further west....http://billings.craigslist.org/tls/4089071711.html That is a Movhave Industries saw built from a kit. If you were able to read the shiny sticker on the front vise plate it will read "Movhave Industries". Whoever bought it built the tank. The design is 'ok' and i've seen better speed contol/ drive mechs on the front. Last one I seen was a DC gear motor with adjustable feed and a weighted shutoff so as to if the blade wasn't turning the force has to go somewhere else which is spinning the drive motor that will hit a secondary switch shutting it off and was regulated by a weight. Or.........you could just use my recent powerfeed control which is so simple it's stupid and works like a charm and is 10x easier than any on the market but won't get any 'it's genius' comments because when you see it the first thought is whatever. In reality it is genius i've been building this crap for 20 years and its an idea I just had in my head for years but never tried till 2 nights ago. Like I said.........you won't be impressed when you see it but I can build it in minutes and it works.

No offense but so far this thread is making ZERO sense. So the blade isn't centered in the guard........and the problem is? Take pics and post them so we can try to make sense as to what you're talking about because the verbal description is leaving confusing images in my mind. Are you afraid there's too much gap and the slab that you cutoff will drop in between and jam? I can't figure out what you're talking about. And what do you mean "the key here is your last sentence" are we playing guessing games now? We can't help you without exact specifics and we need pictures. You should take pics and post them and tell us exactly what your concern is in a visual reference. If it's offcentered is the arbor adjustable by loosening set screws and knocking it over? Ok........ enough for now but you should get the pic because we don't.

Its the fault of those who vote. Doesn't matter what side you're on. That's not true anymore. Only the gazillionaires get to run for office and you're given a choice between one criminal vs. the other criminal. Voting can't get us out of this mess, the solution that can is now limited by the likes of homeland security.

Maybe they'll shut down the border patrol. That's what Obama and Reno want anyway. Open season !!! You know I had a house in Eloy, AZ around 15 years ago. Inherited it from grandmother, parents didn't want it gave it to me ended up selling it cause couldn't talk wife into moving from Kansas(ugh), at any rate a bp agent lived across the street and even at that time that guy literally told me he knew where they were coming across but he had strict orders to stay away from that area. True story. And now i'm glad I did sell the house because no more than a year or so ago the Casa Grande police made the announcement that they had lost complete control over the area and not to go outside at night time. What a shame it was an awesome place. Maybe that was an over reaction I don't know I haven't been there since. I will say I would probably not do the rockhounding trips by Nogales and Duqesne if I were there. Ran into rather odd scenery out in the middle of nowhere by Duqesne.........there was actually grass pasture, trees and cows. Had it not been for the mountains and lenticular clouds I would had thought I was back in KS.

We have a new mail carrier, she was knocking at the back door with a package the other day I nearly spit my beer out when I seen her. Of course she's an independent contractor so can't be fat and out of shape like that.
Real friendly too, of course not sure of how the first impression went with me drinking a beer at 11am. LMAO. I will say that's not a normal daily occurence yesterday was screwoff day and my neighbor was due over any minute and we had a blast on the 4 wheelers.

You could always install a normally closed micro switch through the back wall of the saw so whatever you're talking about (I would need a pic to visualize it)would trip the switch and shut down the saw when it contacted the switch. Not a bad idea.

I guess I'm not seeing what your concern is. If you set the stop such that if the vice is fully closed (bar sticks out fully from the back) it doesn't hit the back, then obviously having a larger rock (vice open) would be safe too. I'm just anal lol. In my way of thinking that is. I'm just like why even bother machining the screwfeed.

I pulled a wall mount heat pump up to the second floor with a pulley and a pickup truck. Awesome redneck engineering im glad im not alone. Speaking of which sometime this winter I need to build that homemade elevator so I can still see the upstairs when im older unlike the old couple down the road that haven't been up there in 15 years. Guess i'm still half asleep not sure how all this subject got encircled in your quote lol. I'd probably still be in bed had I not had a nightmare of getting arrested at the bar because I couldn't pay a $2100 bar tab.

You have plenty of room but if the vise was clamped on a smaller rock that would require the stopping point to where the flat bar sticks out the back is a different stopping point than where a larger rock would be so my as well not even have a one because you'd never reach it with a small rock or vs. you'd never be able to cut a large rock.
The only way to alleviate this problem would be by adding a clutch to where it wouldn't matter if it did hit the rear of the saw.
Don't ask why I rack my brain with such crap I know all about the auto-shutoff etc etc. I realize anyone that knows how to operate the saw none of this would be a problem but I could see a newbie having things go to hell in a hurry.

government shutdown? CHECK national parks closed? CHECK park rangers furloughed? CHECK Anyone want to go rock hounding? I hear the AZ petrified forest is nice this time of year. My way of thinking! Of course the wetbacks have probably already stole it all.

I am hoping for a VERY LONG STANDOFF. Then the majority of USA citizens will get to see, first hand, just how unimportant the federal government is. In my experience, except for one instance, for my recent adult life the feds have stepped in the path of my prosperity at every opportunity. Save that one instance (getting my FFL) they have never once been anything but an adversary to me. And even after getting my FFL the ATF and I were on adversarial grounds, them ready to pounce on me at my first mistake. I am hoping for a VERY LONG GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. In reality i'd just assume get it over with while im young enough to maybe able to survive some crazy ass scenario problem would be everyone would go nuts. It wouldn't just be your skill i'd put that at 20% and the other 80% would be pure luck, not being at the wrong place at the wrong time etc. And now that i've made that crazy comment my first response to your opinion is "OH HELL NO!!!" because it's only the wife and I here in this larger older house and then dad lives by himself in a doublewide on my property. I fully expect to be 'occupied' before this over in fact I have so many friends now getting screwed and possibly losing homes it's not funny of course most of my friends were construction workers. Truthfully i'm surprised someone else isn't living here already! It's came close a couple times. Can't really say no to really close friends that would have nowhere to go but the streets. Like my neighbors who are also best friends they are so far in debt it's not funny and can't even hardly get by when working and now they are both on shutdown? If I end up getting stuck with another vehicle I don't need making a payment on it and another new 4 wheeler and making a payment on that and end up having to actually spend more time working in the shop than drinking beer to make ends meet I am going to be SEVERELY PISSED. So.....that's my first greedy opinion about it all. Of course foreclosure takes forever these days so who the hell knows. I'll be surprised if we make it to the default, oops technical default, date but you never know I think things are far worse than the lead everyone to believe as in the massive economic recovery we are currently in.

I like Covingtons, some not so much but as far as the slab saws yes. I've heard complaints but they appear to be well built esp 18" and larger. Heard complaints elsewhere too but after seeing them in person I don't think I would have a problem owning one and still get the satisfaction of US made.
Been raining out this am, trying to get off my ass and go install the new furnace in my shop. Well, it's 10yo furnace but it only has 1 year use. Pretty sure it will be mounted in the air somewhere. Maybe use those set of skyhooks I have lol.
