Wow!!! So I have two Thumlers tumblers whose motors have gone bad. No matter what I did, I couldn't get them to work. Haven't used them for years so I was going to chunk them. Salpal 48 suggested using mineral spirits. Worked like a charm. Now I have two more tumblers for my hobby. Thanks Salpal 48.

As incredible as the shines are, I must ask you Rollingstone, what is your method for taking the pictures? That too is an art in itself. Cell phone camera? Special lighting, etc.

Combined pet wood and agates. After 1st stage 60/90 in rotory, move to vibe three days 120/220 5 tbs with about 3 tbs of borax. Next step same but 500 AO, then AO polish from Rockshed 3 tbs with 2 tbs borax. Four to five days. All using ceramic media.

For those of you who use the MT10 minisonic vibrating tumbler, what speed do you keep it at for agates and petrified wood? I just can't seem to get a good polish like I do on the rotory, or Lot-O. I pretty much know the amount of grit to use, so that is not an issue. If you do have a recipe that works, I'll try that too. I have gone back to old posts and seen some.
Thanks

Like Jugglerguy, I too have mine on a cinderblock filled with cement. However, on the bottom of the cinderblock I have some blue insulation foam about an inch and a half in thickness that I cut to fit the cinderblock. It's in my garage, but even if it were to be someplace else, all you would hear would be a purring sound.

This is a long shot, but I remember seeing a video where a very, very large colorful almost glassy-looking rock was cut by hand with a hammer and a chisel I believe. It may have been like in some sort of quarry. It's incredible to see how it's done. Would any of you know the video and lead me in the right direction to it? Thanks

Number 2 pencil and remark when required. Won't it come off with the water as you are forming the cab?

What do you use when tracing the shape of a cab? I use an aluminum scribe, but it is very thin and hard to see when I cut cab.

Thanks everyone for letting me know how you do it. I started reusing the media at different stages, but I think I will get more ceramics and do it how Tommy does it. I like the idea of keeping them in separate containers for each stage. Maybe save some time that way. Tommy, in your picture of the containers, one was rough pieces. What do you do with that one?

What are your recipes for using the MT-10 minisonic vibrating tumbler? How much grit to use, ceramic media, length of time, etc.

When using ceramic media in the Lot-O vibrating tumbler, do you have some only for each stage, or do you rinse it off and reuse it in the next stage?

Thank you so much for sharing the steps. I will definitely try it, and let you all know how the rocks turn out.

That is an awesome shine! I have a lot-o, but haven't been able to get that kind of shine in my rocks. May I ask you what were your steps, grits used, type of polish, etc.? Thanks

Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes? I know cleo hasn't been on in a decade but the actual factual answer is that Zebras are in fact black with white stripes. We know this because sometimes the foals are born with out all their stripes and the incomplete stripes are white Answer: Neither. Black and white and white and black are stripes with zebras in between.

If a wildfire changes amethyst into citrine, is it genuine citrine made by nature, or just heat-treated amethyst? Answer: The Condor has checked with his most reliable of sources (a pony named Wildfire who busted down his stall) and was informed it is genuine citrine formed by nature for Wildfire is nature at its finest.

I'm tumbling agates that I have bought and or collected from West Texas, and petrified woods, rose quartz, etc. It's strange because for the most part before, they've tumbled and polished quite well. I think I will go to SiC 500, then the aluminum oxide and see what happens.
