When we called the tech guy, he said that the DNS tables were probably corrupted. Maybe our call alerted them to the problem. It only effected this site- ONLY. That's pretty strange to me. In Mel's case he couldn't access either the root domain (rocktumblinghobby.com) OR either of the forum domains from his computer using Firefox or his wife's computer using IE. This had to be on the provider's end because all three of those URL's use different DNS. I do know that on Friday my host Dreamhost was under a DDOS attack so it's entirely possible that they messed with their DNS to block the attack then it had to re-propagate around the internet - which would explain it eventually fixing itself. It doesn't explain losing access to the forum though unless coincidentally Proboards also uses Dreamhost which we have no way of knowing. Tommy My problem was the same. I could only get on if I went thought my phone plan. I had to shut of the Wi-Fi to access RTH...........................MrP

jamesp I bet you know all about these... I have a Viking vibe unit that came in an estate. It's the one with 2 hoppers, maybe 4 or 5 lb each. Former owner tried to put a larger thumler barrel on it, of course unsuccessfully. All the original parts were with it so I have assembled. When I turned it on it seemed to be too aggressive. Looked at the weight sets on the shaft, one was at about 3.5, the other 2.5. I moved the 3.5 end to 2. Needed a couple mounting bolts for the hoppers so I haven't fired it up, will the settings I have work o.k.? Secondly, what's it worth if I decide to sell it? I am not jamesp but I also have one. Make sure the bolts are grade 8 and the buckets are bolted down tight. If they come loose you will break an ear off of the bowl. My unit came set up that way so I made a 40lb tub out of a propane tank. Works great. If you ran it with no weight on it you will not be able to how it is working. Need weight to get it to vibe right............................MrP

I used to have a link to a site that talked about building them, don't remember what they said about the DVD's or CD's. Tommy just built one so I was going to follow his lead. It would seem to put the tightening pressure on the Metal rather than the Kerf. Not going to put this together until mid-week at the earliest. My new 20 inch blade is coming this week and want to get the Big Saw up and running. Too many rocks, too many machines! too little time!! You are joking, right?...................................MrP

I have a new job that I have been at for a month. My attendance is perfect, I'm always early. I called in sick once, had a doc note. And one day I was taken out of work by ambulance. I had lost the ability to speak. Dr's thought that it was a stroke. Thankfully it was just a migraine with expressive aphasia. Still concerning (that is a bad thing to have happen with a migraine), but not as bad as a stroke. So this is why I need to vent: I went back to work that Monday, and found out that I was being written up for "leaving work early". In an ambulance. That they called. Needless to say, I am looking for a new job. I haven't quit this one yet, but I sure do plan on it. I was wondering where my old boss went....................................MrP

Here are a couple of cabochon trios I cut this week. The photos were taken with a cell phone and the colors are off. Actually both sets are incredibly beautiful. The first set is Willow Creek Jasper; I had a nice slab with some unusual straight lines in it. The class demo showed how to cut two mirror-image cabochons. The second is some old Ocean Jasper I had. The class demo showed how to cut a trio with the small cabs "fitting" either side of a larger cab. That is some great work......................................MrP

The UV-18 has a larger diameter threaded rod so no. If I had a UV-18 and found a UV-10 bowl for cheap I would drill it out to use on the 18 but you would have to change the unbalanced weight on the shaft to settle it down a bit. I have a 10, 18, and 45 and have adjusted the unbalance on all of them to settle them down because I didn't like how aggressive the were........................................MrP Thank you MrP. I have an Industrial UV-18 on the way from The Rock Shed, along with an extra bowl to dedicate for polish only. I will NOT drill out the holes of UV-10 bowls so they work with the UV-18 - I will still be using the UV-10 on occasion. I would rather not do any re-balancing either (people with my mechanical skills should leave that stuff well enough alone - don't tempt the fates! ...Hmmm... How do you spell Klutz?) I also have a new Industrial UV-10 bowl on the way, to replace the one that blew out this last Wednesday. It was a very messy 3-inch break on the bottom of the bowl - which was only 3 months old. I could have continued that aborted run (8 lbs Agates and Quartz - running at 600 grit) using the dedicated polish bowl, but decided to wait for the UV-18 to arrive. The UV-10 will go on the shelf as a spare. Can you see any problem in adding the extra 1/4 in. foam rubber gasket under the bowl and under the lid? Will that dampen the action any? Thank you again for your help! I don't think the extra foam rubber will make much difference because the bowl has to be bolted kind of solid anyway so it fits tight. I thing the foam is more for making sure the bowl doesn't move around. As far as foam on the lid I don't have any. Found it to be a pain so removed it and all is fine.
As far as re-balancing the UV-18 and UV-45 have an extra bolt on the offset weight to add more unbalance. On the one of my UV-18s I drilled and tapped the back side of the weight to take a lot of the vibe out of it. I am going to do the same to the UV-10 because I just can't get it settled as much as I want. I change the unbalance depending on what I am tumbling. Agate In 220 grit let-er buck, obsidian in polish not so much.
I am wondering how you blew out your bowl in 3 months. My first UV-18 bowl lasted over 2 years 24-365 running 220 through polish. One thing I did do is when that bowl started to wear thin I put a layer of thin Super Glue in it. Just pour the glue in and roll it around until it is all covered. You will want to do that outside because the fumes can get bad.
Good luck. The good thing is it only takes years to learn it all. Well maybe the good thing is you NEVER learn it all. Have fun..............................MrP

My daughter lives in Carbondale, IL so I will be there. We have a baptism on Sunday for the newest Granddaughter, 5 grandkids all girls, so I am there anyway. Carbondale has about the longest time, 2min 40 sec. NASA has a program at the SIU stadium and I have a ticket for that. Sure hope the sky is clear. They call Carbondale the crossroad for Eclipse because they say they are the center for the one I 2024 also.
Good thing we have an RV because rooms were sold out a year ago at very high price I have heard $1500 or more for a room. We are staying at the Du Quoin fairgrounds for $20 but of course the cost to get there is more then if I was driving the Z4................................MrP

Mr P = pitiful excuse fro a person , maybe , huh, maybe. Life is to short to take it serious, lighten up and enjoy it. It's all a joke anyway. I get it now. You are referring to yourself being a snowflake talking to me. Thank you for clarifying that...........................MrP
