I had been wondering about the crazy lace progress. Looks like that batch turned out quite nice. Burned out on tumbling rocks and dealing with cracks and pits for a while. Looking to tumble with out blemishes and pre-grinding. So moving to glass for a spell since it is often blemish free. Tumble better rocks! Had also wondered if/when burnout might occur. Surprised it took this long. Your experiments on faster and faster tumble runs are TRULY interesting, and admirable. But... all that work seemed to make the tumbling process - work! I'm sure you find it all a challenge, and hopefully still enjoy it. But all the daily checking and moving rocks for this and that stage run - and in such quantity, has to become tedious at some point. I sure couldn't wouldn't do it. Your ( outstanding) results speak for themselves, but don't take the fun out of it. Or it's not as much fun! Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

Reply to my questions about still having "the good stuff" Hi Bob, yes we have a great deal of high-quality material. Most folks who have been here are jewelry makers and interested in slabs and obsidian or opals, turquoise, etc. So, yes, come on tomorrow! etc ... Very optimistic! where is the fingers crossed smiley face thingy? Road trip tomorrow. Gonna be freakin' freezing in the morning. < -- cross to bear Mel Sabre52 and others - price help? Teepee Canyon and Dryhead agate material ?? I will check eBay, but things there are usually pretty jacked up. What does dino bone go for? (ballpark?) Will check sold eBay listings prices. Gonna be an interesting day tomorrow. Wonder how much weight a Tundra can hold ...

Has anyone seen variscite with this red veining before? Such an unusual piece and a good size for a display piece that I couldn't pass it up.

Just received this reply.
Hi Bob, it's not a problem that missed our showing today. We have a ton of stuff ... seriously, and we haven't even made a dent in the best stuff. We're slowly bringing out more and more as we're downsizing.
We'll be showing again tomorrow (Sun) between 12 and 4 and then on Monday, Tuesday from 2-4. I don't know yet after that. Let us know if and when you think you might be able to make the trip!
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...
Will email back and see if they are serious about still having "good stuff" left. It is a solid 3 hour drive each way. Don't want to go for a bunch of stupid crystal pieces or antlers.
Hope springs eternal!

Yeah, I'm gonna be kicking myself all day for missing this one. Haven't heard back from them, but don't really expect to. I'll go back to checking craigslist twice a day and find nothing worth buying for the next 6 months. That looked like a once in a lifetime pile of Teepee and Dryhead - may never see anything like that again here in the No Rocks State.

I have sent them a craigslist email, but as Scott said, the best will be long gone. I'm absolutely sick having missed this opportunity. Not like out west where rock estate type sales come along frequently. This is a once in a year (if lucky!) event in Florida.

We, here in St. Pete Fl, have two "rock shows" a year. Not REAL shows like Tucson or Quartzite, but it's Florida, so we take what we can get. *sigh* Went to the opening day this morning of our smaller show. Like in a room half the size of a football field at a civic center a couple towns (10 miles) up the road. As expected, it was lacking. But, I've got pretty high standards - when it comes to rocks. Took enough cash with me to buy a decent used car and had a hard time spending the $138 that I spent! Have I mentioned that Florida SUCKS lately? Picked up a 5" brown jasper sphere for 40 bucks (good deal), and a few chunks of rocks. Sci fi (exotica / porcelain) jasper, (real) Ocean Wave outta Africa, A hunk of palm wood - no location given but guessing Louisiana, and a fairly nice piece of silver lace. Hardly worth taking pictures. *sigh* Spent more at the grocery store on the way home... *SIGH* So, I was wasting the afternoon (rainy day) on eBay and came across a nice piece of Variscite. I like Variscite (Utah), and this is a very unusual specimen. Got it to make me feel better! Good sized piece - 16 x 14 x 8.2 cm Auction pictures - NEVER seen this with red veins before. The locality is Utahlite claim, Utahlite Hill, Lucin, Pilot Range, Box Elder County, Utah. (from the listing) Would have rather had a better show, but it's something at least and I have a good spot in a display case for it.

Finally got to go outside without my nose hairs freezing! ๐ This is part of my broken treasures. I'm wondering if there is a way to just smooth the broken side. ? In the last pic the glass is too thin to tumble (?) But if I could just smooth the edges, I'd be able to drill it to hang. Thank you SO much ๐ you see what you have started!

I wasn't picking mine, it wasn't asked for. Just playing on Dave's thread with the nostalgia theme.

Been watching this thread daily and I finally have to ask.
What inspired this recent glass craze?
Speed of start to finish? Working on methods to tumble softer rocks? Just something different to play with?
Looks like you will get some outstanding tumbles from all the glass, hopefully without requiring stitches along the way.
