Yeah, I was expecting a Darwin Award, too.
They don't always do it that way. Sometimes you can just light a match inside them and they blow up. Usually results in a couple of deaths a year.

Wow, I'd be happy with those, too!
Love the Stone Canyon because of the black.

Jeri, sure go ahead and post the pics.
The first time I was at Stillwell I found a phenomenal 20 lb. palm bog root. Last year I found several pieces of agate and wood that I was very happy with. Not plume agate like you'd find at WWR, but a nice combination of moss and fortification.
I hope you find the rest of that tree! That piece was fantastic!

Nice! I've made buckles before, but wasn't terribly happy with the findings I had. I'll have to check out the Rock Shed.

Funny, Jean, I also thought lepidolite, but I've never seen it that green. There is a lepidolite deposit near Mt. Rushmore, just south of Keystone (where The Rock Shed is located). That is obviously not a definitive answer, as it could very well be any of the others mentioned.

Agree with Don. Doesn't look right for Montana, including the dendrites/moss.

Wow, Daniel! I can't pass up an offer like that! Thank you! I'm crazy about lace. Especially with that great sunburst. And thanks for the additional pics! Chuck

Interesting. The guy I spoke to was definitely from India.
The Pro-Slicer that I got from them was also very thin. Might be useful for opal if I ever get some, but way too thin for agate.

Congrats! Nice slabs! Any chance for a closeup of the slab in the lower right of pic 9 (also shows up behind other slab in pics 7 and 8)?
I bet you particularly like the scenic jaspers. The African preform looks like a tie I have...

Hey Jeri,
The prices at Johnson Bros. are good, but I didn't have the best service there (literally sounded like an Indian dude on his cell phone at the grocery store). Also very slow to ship, as I recall.
Cherda: are you using the Gorilla blades?

I've had more problems cutting rock with my 10" saw than my 18". The vise on the 10" isn't as good and there just seems to be fewer good contact points on the small rocks, unless you make some blocking cuts.
For reference, I use a 1/2 hp motor on my 10" Star Diamond and a MK 303 blade. (In the past I used a 1/3 hp motor without issue.) The saw has an auto screw feed with a little motor. One of the nice features is that it uses a wood block to engage the screw feed. If I adjust the contact between the wood and the screw correctly, the block will slip if the blade stalls.
For a cut like you described, I would normally flip the stone so that I'm cutting from the end, rather than the middle.

Jeri,
I second (or third) the 303C recommendation from JS Gems. Normally figure about 5 minutes per inch of agate.

I was also thinking rhyolite. Devil's Toenails have a very distinctive shape.
Regardless, very nice pieces!

We need to repot the cactus; it's still in the water jug. We've been ignoring it for a couple of months so that we don't over water.
I haven't cut the sagenite yet. In fact, I haven't had much time to play with rocks at all.
That ravine looks promising, as does the center of the map!
Let me know if you find a nice chunk of flower garden that you're willing to part with!

Beautiful cab, as always!
I like the size of the photo---just about life size on my screen.
