If you want to make use of the sheen, cut like you would labradorite or moonstone. If it is going to be a pendant, hold the stone up in front of you and chest level and turn so that you can see the sheen with the sun at your back. Imagine where the flat back side would be if the stone was cabbed where you are holding it and cut on that flat back plane. Does this make sense?
If you don't care about the sheen, then try to make the best cut possible with the cleavage to try to get a solid piece.
It should work up fast and take a nice shine.

Yep, it grows in blocks. It's orthoclase (a form of moonstone) colored by microcline. Do you see a sheen on any particular side?

Oh yes, I had a four year old Golden Retriever/ Black Lab mix that had nephritis associated with Lyme Disease. She had no Lyme symptoms until the renal failure. Took her to the major vet hospital in Philly for the best treatment we could find. She had a couple blood transfusions and we went through the stomach stuff and special diets for three months. They said it was a miracle she lasted that long. This was back in the late 90's and they weren't doing subcutaneous liquids for dogs then, only for cats. Bless you for what you are doing for your baby. Wish there were better treatment options. Huggs. Jo

Just my input, I bought one of those opal filled mason jars at the Spencer Opal Mine Store (the mine is closed to the public) two years ago. It was $35 for the jar then. Jo

How about 18k electroforming. Vance does it. He is Free4rms on here and I think his business is called Earth Relics. I did some intarsia cabs and he did a great job on them running the metal over certain areas with a high degree of accuracy. I think it would look super. Just a thought. Jo

All of the National Parks are that way. No rock collecting in any of them, period. At the entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park in AZ, they ask you if you have any rocks and will inspect them and mark your containers so you don't get in trouble for having rocks in the park.
You'll love Carlsbad. Always wanted to see Big Bend... maybe some day. Have an awesome time!! Jo
