Well, I did have plans to do a wrap for this challenge but it seems the mesquite trees in my mom's yard had other thoughts. I was mowing weeds (yes, we got lots of weeds this year because of the rain) and somehow I got hit in the eye by a branch. Before you say anything let me assure you I was wearing safety glasses. I now have been blurry in that eye for a few weeks and eye doctor says it may take a few more before the blurriness goes away. I attempted a wrap but it was not pretty or even presentable so I think I'm going to have to sit out this month. Hope to see some good round wraps from you other wrappers. Diane! Thank G-d you didn't go blind in that eye and thank G-d you had safety glasses on. Sounds very painful, though. Here's to quick and thorough healing. (((HUGS))) Thank you 😊

I'm so sad to hear that, but happy to read further in the thread that you are improving. I have weed issues as well, and you have motivated me to at least remember to wear safety glasses. I'm sure glad that the issue is temporary, although painful and annoying. Thanks. Please do wear safety glasses. Eyes are so easily injured. Even safety glasses don't always help but at least it's something to do to try to keep safe.

I've heard that too but mom says no to a goat. Goats are funnier than hell, but smelly! I'm really allergic to them, so no goats for me, either, Diane. Goats are definitely funny especially when they are young. I wanted to get fainting goats 🐐 but mom says no goats period. Didn't know you were allergic to goats but glad you know that and don't have them.

Sorry to hear about your eye, Diane. Hope it heals quickly. Arizona weeds are the worst weeds I have ever seen. Battle them constantly and still come back. A pox on tumbleweeds. Mesquite trees are really cool though, but I found out the first year I was here that I am really allergic to them when they flower. Be careful out there! [/quote] Thank you you hummingbirdstones. Glad I'm not alone in the weed battle. You must be miserable when all the mesquite trees are blooming. I am allergic to Juniper but fortunately we don't have many here. You be careful out there too.

Goats are the answer drocknut, they eat everything, or so I hear. Patty
I've heard that too but mom says no to a goat.

drocknut. Bet that was a surprise. I always feel my eyes are safe because I always wear glasses. And you wore safety glasses. Glad your sight will return to normal. Take care! Pat Thanks, Pat. Yeah, it did surprise me. I didn't even know my eye had gotten hit until I got off the mower and took my glasses off. My eye was sore, but by the next morning, it was swollen and red. Nothing got in the eye, thank goodness, but the branch scratched the cornea and that is taking a while to heal.

Geez Diane drocknut, I hope you're OK. That sounds painful. Maybe you should just let the weeds grow- a lot of weeds become pretty flowers at some point. Patty... hoping to do a wrap AFTER she gets rid of the week long relative company ! I'm ok. It was painful for a week or so, but the eye drops from the eye doctor have helped a lot. I wish I could just let the weeds grow. Unfortunately, they get really tall, then dry out and create a fire hazard. Some of them do have pretty flowers while the more problem weeds just get big and dry up spewing seeds everywhere.

Didn't know if I was going to participate in this one or not. Haven't done a wrap for a little bit though so I really wanted to do one. This is a piece of Mariposa that I collected a couple of years ago and then tumbled. Went with my brother who was up here visiting and my dad. Thinking about it now. That was definitely the last trip the three of us did together. This is my first time wrapping a non-cabochon rock.
Great job on wrapping that beauty. I know tumbled stones can be challenging to wrap for sure and you did a great job on it. I love the shape of that tumble and the wire wrap looks so natural on it. Glad you got to go on the trip with your dad an brother.

Wow, super cool story and pics and giant GG (aka Freedom) chunk and slab and cab and wrap drocknut ! I’m jealous of your trip, being able to dig that back then. Pretty wrap as well, the stone is able to show off and the silver looks good with the green.👍 Thanks khara. It was sure a fun trip and I am grateful I was able to go.

Way cool trip and way cool cab, Diane! Love the wrap and the story. Thank you. It was a cool trip although I could have done without seeing the snakes there. Including the bull snake that didn't like us driving on "His" road.

Great job wrapping that tumble, rockbrain! Beautiful stone and story, too. I have never tried to wrap a tumbled stone, so I don't know that I would be able to do it! Hmmm, do I sense another challenge within a challenge? I'll bet you'd be able to do it no problem.

Wow Diane, drocknut ,you blew me away with the story & photos. Interesting, seeing that large chunk in the ground, it looks like you might take a hammer & cold chisel and get a layer off. How cool ! Your wrap is a wonderful compliment to the stones pattern & in my book definitely gets extra credit for the wonderful shape of green and the great story. Thanks for sharing it, Patty Thank you Patty liveoak. I'm glad you liked both the story and the wrap. I had forgotten I had that cab until I got to looking around for green cabs made from rock I collected. As I said before I don't have too many green cabs especially that I collected but I do have a few. I have fond memories from that McDermitt trip and it just seemed to fit for the challenge. I kept the wrap simple since I was pressed for time plus that cab needed to be the center of attention. I'm definitely more minimalist when doing wraps, guess that's my style. I did think of looking for a tutorial for something more fancy but time and my style won out this time. Thanks for the extra credit, I love getting extra credit ;-) Diane
