I woke up this morning to hear that our world had been rocked big time but after some quick checking, there doesn't seem to be any signifigant damage or tsunami; it was a slip quake like the san andreas in the north central west part of the province and affected the islands and interior and even to alaska so was wide spread. This type doesn't generate the large tsunamis allthough a small surge was noticed. All good from what I hear. It sure says something about good wood frame construction

here's a peice of deep maroon coloured chert, the rough looks a ruddy red purple but it darkened considerably when it ws cut and polished unfortunately in a way but the rich chocolatey purple is quite nice too. it is 6-7 mohs and I call this cab "The Samba Dancer" because of the inclusion it has of light lacy veining. A lot of people only expect to see the imperial green tones in the nephrite but there is a wide variance in colour there to depending on where it comes from as you probably know; too bad he rejected it. The jadeite sure is nice stuff to work with.

this peice actually is a weird mix; It feels more like opal to cut and finish, I tried to do my standard finish but the only thing that shined up was the black band which is bright and shiney. I don't see or feel any undercutting so I don't know what it is and why it didn't polish more. maybe too much dirt scratching it up from the seam of iron. It is a nice semi gloss so I think I'll leave it there.

he can probably do that shape in his sleep now:<)) Is that end preped for gluing into a bevel and bale for a neck chain? By the way; where did you get the serpentine? it looks exactly like what I find here

I would guess with the veining running the way it does and no wood patterning that it isn't wood but with rocks you never know what is going to fool you. This is another cab i did today of the same type of material; as I said, the colours and patterning are interesting Attachments:
