Another thought. When I have people ask me to make spheres for them, I tell them to preform the sphere so that it will easily roll on a table. I never had a person deliver a preform. LOL

As a sphere maker, I do not know how you can put a fair charge on this to make it worth your effort. It will take some where between 6-30 hrs to make, depending on size and hardness of materiel, then you have wear and tear on your grinding cups plus electricity cost. Not many people will be welling to pay you more then minimum wage when they can go to a rock shop and buy a sphere made in China or India for $20-30.
JMO.. Best of luck.

Let's see a picture of what you're dealing with Behold, the greasy beast. The residue is so sticky it actually pulled paint off the bottom when I pulled out the small vice on the right. I tried scraping it yesterday with a plastic putty knife, and that was a no go. Current plan is to spray the heck out of it with Simple Green and let it stew in its own juices for a few days and try again... greig - Based on the rough I got with it, it was mostly used to cut jaspers (a LOT of mookaite), lots of rhodonite, and bloodstone. That is not bad at all, I was expecting far worse. Put a couple gallons of HOT water in there, enough to cover the muk, add a few cups of degreaser and let it sit over night. Then drain and wipe clean.

That is very nice. Can't wait until we have a place so I can get the saws out of the trailer. I had a couple of that style of Nelson saw, can you believe I saw one in an estate with a 24 inch blade? Definitely time to get the saws out of the trailer!!! It's hounding time in Az. I seen a 24" version on FB a few months back, what a cool monster that was. Welcome to Az.

For light duty cleaning I use Purple Power degreaser, for heavy duty cleaning I use oven cleaner I get from the dollar store, just use in well ventilated area.

A little more progress today. Just need to slap a few pieces of wood on the vise.

I got the old HP Mohstly disassembled, luckily only a few minor surprises, broken bracket and stripped nut for the carriage, minor repairs. Off to sand blast this week for the large parts.

Let me know how much you like them once you start cutting, it is one of saws I always wanted but never found one. I am interested in how the speed setting works.

Try adding some weight to the top of the slab, probably just floating around. I tried the flat laps multiple times, I found I did not have the patience and polished the slabs on a Poly Arbor with a 8" expandable wheel in a few minutes each.
Good luck.

Next in-line for restoration is an extremely over built and HEAVY 24" home built slab saw. Got it on casters and a new hood made. Need to figure out direction on auto-feed and rewire the saw. Tim
