Funny you mention this woofer. I was planning on tumbling various minerals and metals to scavenge the slurry for making reactive glass colors. Perhaps rhyolite or andesite glass ? Sure , melting glass is cool But melting your own rocks would give some street-cred

Did another cleanout. This barrel is still rolling the clear glass that will be used as filler along with the colored glass later. Still not rounded enough to look interesting, so back in the barrel to run another week of course grit. Trying out a lower water level and added a couple of large rocks to try an increase the grinding action.

I've had a QT66 for a year now, even have a 3rd barrel for the final polish stage. Always wanted a 12 pound barrel to do big quantities occasionally, but I already have too much capacity and the polished rocks are starting to build up. After all, this is just supposed to be a fun hobby without any end-game in the plan. Thinking about making Stepping Stones with my polished rocks now. May possibly even sell the 3A within a year.

I am advising NO on this. Thinking that a cloth towel will let too much mud through Paper Towels will just clog up and stop passing water
Try and make a filter that will pass clear water or your drain will eventually clog.

- All Local Beer For Me - About 3 years ago I walked into a local brewery and drank some of the first craft beers that I never had. Since that time I have only had Local Beers. No matter what location that I am in I will drink the Most Local beer that I can find. Here in Huntsville there are 5 breweries within 2 miles of home and 14 breweries within 10 miles. If I include breweries within 100 miles I'm sure there would be over 60. One of my favorite breweries has some great Rock Collecting where some landscaping rock got spilled along the roadside out in front of the place. There is a bar 3 blocks from home that advertises 500 different beers on their sign out front.
I'm a Binge Drinker. A coupla times a week I will settle down and drink 9 or 10 beers in a sitting. Not tonight, but tomorrow night . . .

alikat218 Which one is "The Panama" that you mentioned above? Guessing it is the red glassy one on the lower left corner ? The glassy red one is the Panama-Looks like there is 2 pieces of it in you photo. It use to be one big rock Oh My Goodness that was a very pretty rock. I chipped a corner off of it and returned 90% of it to the box. In the picture it can barely be seen on the left side in the middle.

Here is the material that I removed I got it all started today in a 6 pound barrel. I had to add some rocks to fill up the barrel, used some that I collected in South Carolina a couple of weeks ago. alikat218 Which one is "The Panama" that you mentioned above? I got 25 pounds of this Bulk SiC back when jamesp got the stuff. Been using it for a coupla months adding it to the barrel Raw directly out of the box that James sent me. But The largest SiC pebbles are starting to cause me problems. The biggest pieces won't go through the colander and I need to hand-filter the big SiC pebbles from the target rock that I am tumbling. So I screened it all through some 1/4 inch hardware cloth that I've had laying around. Got a large container of the big pieces to crush up for tumbling later. And here are some of the same pieces that have been tumbling some rocks for 2 or 3 weeks, they almost look the same.

Finally getting around to posting last weeks cleanout. So this stuff has been rolling for a full month now. It could round off a little bit more but it's good enough for my impatient self. Really liking the way the clear glass is turning out. Was planning to push it all through to the polish stages but realized that I didn't have enough material to properly fill the 6 pound barrel for a good shine. So the colored glass has been put aside while I course grind some clear fresnel lenses down. As soon as I have a good quantity of glass I'll push it all through the last 3 or 4 stages of polish.

Would be able to make some really cool lawn ornaments with these by cutting daisy shaped sheet metal flowers with these lenses fastened in a center cutout like a Sunflower to catch the Suns rays ! My neighbor and I made some of these with old traffic light lenses. That is a cool Idea. One of those lenses with an aluminum piepan behind it to reflect the light back out, along with some ornamentation.

Pyrex is a hard glass woofer. The softest glass I ever tumbled was 3/8 and 1/2 inch table top glass. Sort of an aqua tint to it. I suppose it is tempered and in some way that must soften it. An it bruises by looking at it. Some bottle glass is darn slow to shape. Glass can be stubborn. I believe the Mohs value can vary from 4.5 to 6.5. Your lens glass looks like it broke in long daggers, how cool is that. You can take a piece of clear plate glass and set it on some props, then introduce bottom light and top light to get some cool photos. I am trying different techniques to get a polish in the rotary instead of using the vibe all the time. Or at least a pre-polish with out bruises or frost. Can not have a single frost area or bruise. Thinking about a long 4 inch PVC barrel that holds 6 to 8 pounds rotating slowly for a super gentle roll. Don't you have a small 3 pound barrel ? When I was breaking the glass up with a chisel it was tending to break in long thin pieces. I was trying to prevent that, but those are some of the most appealing pieces. Planning on pushing the colored glass through to polish on Sunday after a full month tumbling in course. Was also thinking that I should add some rocks in there to help speed up the course tumbling. Yes I have a 3 pound Lortone 3A but it runs at 60 RPM.
