Hi, welcome. As you can see, this is the place to come for the best and most variety of tumbling advice. Heed Susan24224's message...this is a full blown addiction (but a very healthy one) that you're getting into. Your first batch is looking good. Keep going with em'. It normally takes hundreds, sometimes thousands of years for nature to polish rocks like the pros here at RTH do. Patience is defiantly the key. Even after you successfully finish 50 loads, you will get a load that just wants to give you trouble. And it will take you back to the beginning again. Keep asking the members here specific questions and you will surely get the answers you need. -Chris

Yes, follow the advise of Snuffy and Sabre52. The constant volume is key. Get up a collection of bulk rocks, smooth, between 1/4" and 3/4" dia., and run as many as you need to keep up the bulk of the original 'coarse' load. You can run these 'bulk rocks all the way through and use them again in future loads. And most definitely use plastic beads in the last three stages. And I go as far as to use common table sugar, quite a bit - by feel, to thicken up and slow down the final stages. The sugar does not affect the polish.

Alright! Way to go! Nothing better in this entire hobby than to teach the young ones among us about this great art! As a father and grandfather myself, I applaud you and give props to your daughter as her work is quite nice! Love seeing the safety gear being used as well. I only hope more parents post pics like this and let all the youngsters out there see that this is a very cool hobby that comes with rewards that everyone can be proud of! Bring on the new blood! -Chris.
