Wheels wear. It's normal that the wear shows in one spot first. You can re-diamond it yourself in the time it takes to talk about it. Search for the re-diamond thread. All you need: Epoxy Diamond powder Glass surface to mix on Putty knife Acetone to clean up Do it once, & you'll do it for life because it's so easy to do. Lynn I remember that DIY. Do you do it regularly? I've heard mixed reviews. Alternatively, Johnson Bros will do it for 20 a wheel plus shipping. I have 2 other sets of wheels that did not wear like this. I'm thinking like others have mentioned - a high spot spot or uneven coating. I did have to exchange the first 600 that I got in this set because it was very obviously uneven. John sent the new wheel (this one) right away. I'm thinking it may have been in a bad run. I've been re-diamonding belts for over 5 years. Cost per 3" wide, 8" diameter belt is less than $3. I do it in-place, right on the machine. Lynn

I saw the slab photos. This cab turned out beautiful. People love druzy pockets. I can't wait to see other cabs from that set of slabs. Lynn

I've been using the bits off of the Wish app with rather decent success believe it or not. Can get a 10 piece set for like 7 or 8 bucks total. No idea what the Wish app is. Please elaborate. Lynn

Tommy, Alligator lizards & Skinks are different. We used to catch some Alligator lizards in the foothills above Cupertino. Sometimes they have ticks on their necks. Watch out! Skinks are much more slender than Alligator lizards. They often have a colored tail. I've chased many Skinks, but never caught one. They are survivors. Lynn

We've always called the ones in Calif & Utah, Bluebellies. Sometimes there's also yellow on the belly, but that's even more derogatory. Lynn

150FromFundy, I'm really enjoying your travel log & photos. I've lived in Utah for 10 years & haven't been to all of the parks yet. I get to Bryce & Zion the most. Bryce is 90 mins from here (Cedar City) & Zion is 70 mins. My wife & I have our jewelry in DeZion Gallery in Springdale (entrance to Zion). When I drive down to restock the gallery, I enjoy my awesome "commute". Sure beats Hwy 237 in San Jose! I've seen Ken Caruso shaping some huge Pet wood stumps with an angle grinder. He says he sells some to the Bryce Canyon Rock shop. Here's a musical reference: All along the Navajo Trail, Burnouts stub their toes on garbage pails. Who can identify it without the help of Google? Tommy, I bet you know. Lynn

Nice find! Some parts remind me a bit of Royal Sahara Jasper or Biggs Jasper. Where in Montana? Lynn

@shotgunner , I have a chunk of India Bloodstone that's very much like your slab. I've made & sold a couple pieces of jewelry & have a few slabs left. No photos today. I've got a flu & am dealing with that. Good thing I work from my home office. Lynn

For crumbly, unstable rough or slabs, epoxy resin is your friend. Get the slab or preform hot with a 100 watt bulb. Then spread some epoxy. Watch it soak in. Keep adding more until it's saturated. Keep that heat on it while curing. I use Hxtal & heat for an hour or two before & after. When cured, flip & repeat. Lynn

I have a few Bolo-size cabs at my booth when I sell. In 5 years I've made 4 for customers. I usually glue the stone to a bolo finding after the show, insert the cord, glue on tips & mail it to the customer.
I used to use superglue & give it to the customer at the show, but I've come to distrust superglue for jewelry. Put it in your dashboard on a sunny day for a few hours & the glue releases. Lynn
