Run the tumbler without the cover over the motor space. If you're not in a dirty environment, this shouldn't cause an issue at all. All of my Lortones have been run without the covers...for years. As I also do .... It does help.. Leaving the cover off of the tumbler would only apply to the 3A and 3B tumblers The motor on the QT66 is already outside the unit

My Lortone 3A runs hot, but in the past couple of weeks has kinda siezed up and stopped. The motor is still going but the "Drive Shaft" freezes. I've oiled it and got it working but I feel like I need to keep an eye on it. Any comments? Lortone recommends 1 drop of oil on each roller Bearing every month

Going only with 80AO after the 36SC sure is worthy of a trial. Conclusion will be quite interesting. Here you go . . .
Running Dual Polish Barrels using Normal 4 stage and AO 80

5 gal bucket at the top Clear tube to your grinding/sawing/drilling area Cloths pin or Paper clip to control the flow Bucket at the bottom to catch the water/oil
I have a couple of small Cube Pumps that are for making small Water Features they have a small Flow Control on them.
That pump and 1 bucket at the bottom would probably be enough to get you going really cheap too

Keep it and get a 12 pound barrel if you need it. I've got a QT66 and it's great for doing different Stages at the same time and for experiments.

Last year we got double our yearly average of rain. Looks like this year is on-track to do it again.

Stage 1 grinding will be faster The tumbling will be more aggressive But the last 2 stages need to be at 2/3 or 3/4 full or more.
A small river near me has tons of Brown Chert, I collect that just to use as filler It is very hard and will last forever, and the brown color differentiates them from the target rocks plus they are free . . .

Aluminum Oxide will eventually breakdown into polish if it rolls long enough.

Another failure mode I have on my 3A tumbler is that The barrel gets slick and will not spin even when the drive roller is turning.
This requires you to use some sandpaper and rough-up the barrel and drive roller so they can Get A Grip. Plus check the Passive roller for the ability to spin.

You should find that when you stop the drive roller from turning , the belt stops too but the motor keeps spinning against the belt. Making it an easy way to burn up the belt.

That is interesting ? A search of Kingsley for `Aluminum Oxide' only turns up 1 result for 1000 Prepolish The AO from Rockshed works exceptionally well, makes me afraid to try the `Alumina' from Kingsley ?

Kingsley doesn't appear to have Aluminum Oxide Polish. They call their stuff Alumina Polish. I order from Kingsley all the time but I have never tried Alumina.

I've had this with my 3A lately. I haven't been really able to figure out why - the bar turns and the belt definitely isn't slipping. It seems more like the bar isn't getting enough traction on the barrel (I'd had it do this before and found that the barrel had some dust/polish on it acting as a lubricant), and I cleaned the barrel without lasting effect. After the cleaning, it would work for a few minutes to a few hours, then stop again. I finally got bored and lazy, and put a layer of duct tape around the bar and voila, it works. There's probably reasons to not take this approach, but it worked for me. I like the idea of putting some tape on the tumbler driving roller. Thinking about using Electric Tape, hoping for better traction against the barrel.

A barrel/roller spinning on a tumbler long-term will get slick and shiny.
Any grit or slurry that gets on the barrel/roller will make it all slick faster.
Rubbing the barrel/roller with sandpaper will rough it up enough to get a grip on the driving roller on the tumbler. I have also used the trick where you tilt the tumbler toward the driving roller to help push the barrel along.

I have had connecting flights through Dallas 4 times in the last year. Something strange happens on every flight I have there. They are great about changing your departing gate, sometimes more than once.
