Ditto that, Brian. Love camping/hounding in Luna area. This fire is awful. We have smoke so thick in Albuquerque it's blotting out the sun...blowing right straight from the fire into the Rio Grande valley. I can't breathe. It seriously looks like the end of times. Ugly.

Bush turned his focus from Al Quaeda to the Iraq war in order to avenge his Daddy. Shouldn't have done that.
Obama put the focus (and the troops) back where they belonged in the first place.
Although I don't agree with the notion of torture, I do like to imagine that Usama bin Laden is really alive in a dark, dank room somewhere and someone is slowly and painfully slicing him into tiny tiny tiny little pieces.
But that's just me...

A memorial/celebration of life event for Trey Woodward will be held from noon until 4 p.m. April 30 at the Woodward Ranch's Calamity Creek campground. A potluck lunch will be held, and friends are encouraged to bring a potluck dish, folding chair and best "Trey story" to bid farewell and Godspeed. John Frank "Trey" Woodward III, 54, died of cancer March 5, 2011. For directions or more information about the celebration of life, call 432-364-2271.

HA! Love it when we have to eat our own words. I <3 Stillwell and the Big Bend is beautiful, too. Did you get down there? (no rock collecting at the Bend...) It was nice to meet you and Donna. The slabs are beautiful. I wish we could have spent more time...I'm gonna cut into the 6 lbs of rock I brought home from Woodward...will post pics. S

Dave and I have booked the small cabin at the Ranch for this coming weekend. We will be there Fri March 11th, Sat the 12th and Sun the 13th. Considering the recent events, we couldn't stay away. We hope this helps Jayson out, too. See you there!

Gil, it's got nothing to do with the way the Ranch is being run. The Woodwards have to make a living, too...Trey has always been more than fantastic and hospitable to us and Jan has even done Texas Bar-B-Q for us a couple of years. I consider them to be friends, too. Unfortunately, for the $ she now wants to charge to tent camp at the Ranch one can stay at a motel in Alpine. I love the Ranch but I honestly felt like I was going to be electrocuted every time I took a shower, not to mention the black widow spiders behind the toilet. I see nothing wrong with staying somewhere that has RV hookups, Wifi, hot showers and spending some time hunting Woodward, as well as Stillwell and any other sites. Jayson charges a daily fee for hunting as well as per pound for rock and it is still $ in their pockets. I hope all who decide to go this year have a fantastic time. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and there are many treasures to be found. I have thoroughly enjoyed Woodward for the last 5 years and I highly recommend the experience. I am gong to sign off now because every time I open my mouth I manage to stick my foot in it...

Looks like we won't be going either. It's a 10 hour drive each way for us. Last year we had the worst weather yet and every year I find less quality rock. This year we would be bringing 5 dogs. That alone is a deterrent. I would put up with all of it to see Gil, Dan, Don and Dorothy, Robert and Ed again...and meet new rockhounds I love Trey. I love the Ranch. The extra $10 a night it would cost us to stay there is not an issue. I do feel like campers are treated more as an inconvenience. FYI - tent camping at Stillwell Ranch was $10 a night last time I checked and it's only about an hour from Woodward. Don't know what the RV sites are like but there are rocks at Stillwell, too. Just a thought.

LOL, Mel...I just like to yank your chain every now and then. Rich's comment brought the image to mind. Fact is, I'm sick of the Republicans AND the Democrats. S How about a candidate who isn't much of a Politico? More of a Businessman, yeah...that's the ticket! GARY JOHNSON 2012ouramericainitiative.com/

Honestly, Bobby - may I call you that? Both sides are beautiful, but I prefer photo/side # 2. There is more of a distinction between the clear and dark areas. HOWEVER, you have the material in hand and have a better perspective than I. Good Luck.
Can't wait to see it finished. ;)S

Just checked his Etsy site. He's selling cabs like crazy, so he can't be doing too badly.
