not too many laker type agates in Lake Huron, but you can find chalcedony in various colors, lots of metamorphic rock. Its a piece of the lake shore I'd like to explore. No matter what you find, please post photos here... I hear there is jade to be found around the thumb up to Port Huron area, have looked here at the tip of the mitt and not found any.

those are downright decadent. Love the necklaces they are displayed on, they compliment them perfectly.

all gorgeous! that's a lot of copper in the frankenstone, where are those found? Is it shattuckite? Love Bone when it is multi colored and has black cell walls, it always make me think of stained glass. Thanks for the show. I look forward to your posts!

Sputnik was the first in 1957, I remember the furor, anxiety, and fascination. Telstar1 came in 1962, and had its own theme song. Followed closely by telstar 2, both of which are still in orbit though no longer functional. There are hundreds of satellites out there circling the globe and they make fascinating viewing, too. More constant a show than meteor showers, for sure. We can watch as the international space station passes us above, here: spotthestation.nasa.gov/sightings/#.VdBTD2_D_rc
or you can get information on which satellites will pass your area here:

This morning while waiting on the dog I saw two following the same course , paralleling each other as they crossed the sky. I can't remember when I have been star gazing and not seen one or more. Wonder how many people mistake them for UFO's over the course of a year?

Saw a couple Wed and Thursday early AM,I wake at 4 AM and stood outside while the dog was busy... just a few minutes each time and saw 2 each morning. clouds moving in, Sat and Sun are supposed to be clear here, may have a better opportunity to see more, non peak, than we could the other day. Shower will go on for a while yet, just not peak viewing any more.

Viewing these on the news, questions rose in my mind too, isn't plastic which remains soaked in water (say, re- used drinking bottles for one thing) blamed for deteriorating and leaving all sort of chemicals behind which are supposedly dangerous- cancer causing and etc. ? If the balls are black, won't they absorb more heat from the sun and raise the temp of the water, thus causing more evaporation? things that make you go "hmmmm" .

too cute! Clever to use sand molds! Mom worked at the "Cast O Lite " factory when I was a kid, one of the first epoxy type resins. She brought it home and I spent a lot of my high school days playing with resin casting... we would tap the mold on the work table to get the bubbles to come out, and use a greased tooth pick or pin to poke out reluctant bubbles before it set. I don't know about the lighter trick, please explain? We used a light coat of Vaseline as a mold release in the "olden days" (high school was a long long time ago.) Yellowing resin back then was usually due to too much hardener. we would cut toilet paper tubes and grease the insides, put them on waxed paper and make disks about 1/2 inch thick, great for drilling a hole in and making key chains or light catchers. You have given me a flashback... blast from the past. thanks for the post.
