Bluesky78987 It was good to finally meet you at Qz. It looks like you stocked up for cabbing. I did the same. Lots of new slabs & rough. And I planned 2 rockhounding trips so I wouldn't have much time to shop. I guess I'm a fast shopper spender I've never seen that material in the first 2 pix. It looks like your brain when petrified. I like #10 the green & gold. BTW, who is Kris? Lynn

It's at the North East corner of Desert Gardens. It's next to a building on that corner that used to be Diamond Pacific's building. Lynn

Should we meet at your camping area, or at some gas station or business in town? I don't have 4x4. Does anyone have space for one more body (and 300 lbs of agate on the return trip )? Lynn

I am hitting the road tonight (Thurs) and will be ready for a rockhounding trip on Fri - Sun, if anyone is planning one. If you go today, I'll miss that one. Brenda would be great for Fri, Sat, or Sun. (hint, hint) Lynn

It will polish any flat rocks or glass. Flat, not sort of flat. Many people use them to polish geode halves. Lynn

Tommy I may be able to get to QZ Fri-Sun (rolling intro town in the wee hours of Thurs night). No promises. Our son bought us tickets to see G3 - Joe Satriani & friends in SLC on Tuesday night, so It'll be a week with lots of driving. We'll see if I can handle the drive to QZ. If I make it, I'd love to collect Brenda agate with someone who knows where to hunt, but would rather not go withe the QZ club. I'd be driving the van & not the 4Runner, so I'd try to mooch a ride. If anyone plans such a trip, let me know. Lynn

I was cruising around the planet via Google Earth & found this cool field of cinder cones just off Hwy 89 between Cameron & Flagstaff, AZ One of them has a Godzilla-shaped lava flow coming out of it. In Google Earth, use the Shift & Ctrl keys at the same time as your mouse to navigate around. I wonder why other cones in the field don't show similar lava flows. Anyone been to this location? I'd love to explore it next time I drive to Flagstaff or Sedona. Godzilla-1.kmz (738 B) The link isn't working for me. I have more to learn about embedding kmz files. OK, got it working! txrockhunter, thanks for the photos of your shooting setup. Are you darkening the background in post-production? Or are you getting that black in-camera? Lynn

This is the first I've heard of this brand. It looks like a knock-off of Lortone tumblers, with some improvements. I like the ribbed drive belt. Lynn

Suppose I have a friend who is prospecting in the desert and find a deposit of gemstone. The land status is open BLM. He mine this stone in large quantity--for argument's sake, say, 500lbs of gem material-- and sells it at Quartzsite, Tucson, and online. He do not file any claims with the BLM. Suppose he have several similar mines throughout the southwest that he actively mines and sells the gem materials from and makes a living off of selling these materials as a business. Is this considered casual/hobby rockhounding? Is this stealing? Is this illegal? It's people like that that make it possible for me & others to buy rock that we don't have access to ourselves. Or time & travel expenses. I think the government's grip on the use of land is a bit too tight. Lynn
