Rockwizz, and everyone else who sent in pics of the trip - thanks for sharing.
Im in the market for a chunk of Topaz from that trip - so if anyone wants to Ebay some I would place a bid - or I can do a USD business cheque no probs.
Awesome pics and again thanks for making me jealous - the desert seems so desert and yet so appealing to be there.

Rock Tumbling has a kind of finite life to it - we do it to the nth degree then its like - oh my god i can make anything shine. I said "kind of" because its one of those things you HAVE to do after a break from it. Well thats my experience anyway. Its like Doc there says he does "jewelery" - Tumbling is less on the agenda probably - although I havent spoken to Doc but I suspect thats the case. Weather has a lot to play. Work has a lot to play. Family life has a lot to play. I for one take a lower profile here than I did three years ago, but i started 3 barrels going again about a month ago - maybe even 6 weeks ago - Im not sure. I think that the forum has to move on though - because members move on to other things which they like, enjoy and are productiive for them. That said - I still like RTH to the nth degree, and am still going to promote it - infact the new member joins (join rate hasnt dropped) havent dropped and there are loads of people interested in the hobby. I think that I would like to expand the forum into new areas but am miserable to do so due to "DOGMA". But Im chilled out - and hop you guys are all aswell.

"The very existence of flame-throwers proves"................... That people hate snow and someone must have said once "lets clear this up" Cher - do the bear grylls thing and make a snow house. Or - alternatively - try living over here where it is totally boring 100% of the time weather wise - and just wishing you had some snow like that. Mark

Allen,
My latest batches went into my fish tank - they look great. My son says that one of the rocks is daddies, one is mummies and one is lukies.

Cheers all, you know my birthday was overshadowed by my tooooo coooool brothers 30th which is of course a better number than 39, which noone really bothers with. In truth our two birthdays (me 24th my brother 25th) culminated in a grand session at my parents on the 26th!!! Then - today - its my parents 45th wedding so we went out for a steak and chips jobby in Castleton. Hey cheers all for the memories Mark

Mrp, I just needed a break really - too many rocks everywhere (not good for a baby) too much else going on. Nowhere to tumble as I filled my garage to the door and roof with junk and could hardly get in even. Actually - one of the lesser things to put me off was the mess I made of some Malachite which I couldnt shine and caused green stuff all over the kitchen sink and fouled up all the new barrels id got for the project, not the main reason by a long shot - but it definately put me off a bit. Heres how it looks - I should have known it was wearing thin. Yes - they are some kind of pipe with stoppers on - I get them from here www.manchesterminerals.co.uk/acatalog/Tumbling_Machines.htmlThey have different colours - but im pretty sure the brown ones are as Jack says. To get the lids on or off they have to first be immersed in boiling water to soften them - a bit of a bind. Inside the pipes I often stick rubber strips (cut from old car mats) to keep the stones from forming flats as they tend to slip round rather than tumble.

Ive had a small disaster - one of the barrells has burst. Quite interesting infact from my perspective as I chucked a load of fish tank gravel in it because I only had two chunks of main rock in there to tumble (from Stoner) and needed the filler. I had 3 going and added two more - it is one of the "two more" which has burst. Pics themorrow. Connrock - a tip in the context of my post means "a very untidy mess with which I am displeased" Jack is correct in the general scheme of things. I am certain that when Jack reads this above - he will appreciate that my garage is a complete "tip"

"why the board and you did not tumble" (A touch bizarre Mrp) Well - I think that one would not start such a board if one did not tumble rock? the rocks are rolling - Debs is griping about mess in the kitchen - its back to the good old days.

I couldnt help it - I had to get some going even tho the garage has reverted to a tip!! Ok - First up - unfinished business from Cher about 2 years ago!!! Lake Superior Agates - the shine isnt quite right so they are off ino polish for a while. Ill take them back to 220 if required. Next - more unfinished business - some rock from James - I havent got the detail of what it is at the mo - can anyone tell me? This is in 80 - a recharge probably the 3rd for the batch. Next up - Ed sent me some WWR rock samples - and they in for the first time today at 80. And here are my scruffy looking barrels on the go Ive got the bug and theres a lot more barrel space, so I'll kick a few more off I think in the days to come. Mark

Hey we had a quake last night - biggest in 25 years over here.
I woke with a start in the dead of the night - underpants on I sat on the edge of the bed grasping for my baseball bat ready to kill the intruders!!!
Her indoors shouts "its the wind Mark - get back to sleep", in my sleepy head state I says - "hmmm the alarm isnt going off so theres no intruders". I learned what I would do if there was an intruder though. Im not so sure I like it - i'd probably end up in the nick. Anyways - sleep came again.
Lo and behold - the next day everyones yakking on the quake.

We had 3 days of totally clear skies here. Then - you guessed it - just as the eclipse approached it thoroughly clouded over and there was nothing to see. Grim - I fancied taking a few pics aswell. Maybe next time. Mark
