Welcome aboard! My family and I are also from Orange County CA. Hopefully, as things open, the shows will come back as well. Make sure to check out the Searcher's Gem and Mineral show up in Anaheim (if we reopen soon). Always good to have a wide range of interests!

Since I completely spaced and missed the last one, I'll jump in on this: $40.

Don't forget to post pics of your work! I don't cab (actually, can't cab, is probably more accurate) so I always enjoy seeing what others can do.

I love going to the post office with the flat rate boxes, especially when the USPS employee asks, "What's in here? It's really heavy?" Paul: "Rocks" Employee [blank stare]: "They don't have rocks in Turlock?" Paul: "Nope"
LOL

The ones on the right are what I consider worthy of cutting. Great ... now you have me thinking about this ... LOL ... or rather, I'm going to test my wife's patience.

Very nice. Curious on the background? Where did you get it, etc? Excellent work. My son works in Minneapolis and during his breaks he hits what he calls the bull pens that are filled with 1 1/2 river rock. He usually has has 20 or thirty when he comes up north. I was looking yesterday morning for a reddish agate to face polish for a friend and there it was. Rockhounding on a break ... that's awesome.

Welcome to the forum! My family used to live in Long Island many years ago, in a town called Floral Park.

I know these were put out there mainly as tumbler material, but I keep looking at the pictures of these and I just see so many amazing cabs coming out of these. Hmmmm.... They're calling to you, Jason ... [/quiet voice on/] "... buy us Jason ... buy us ... you NEED us ... " [/quiet voice off/]

I am like a cat who dragged home a mouse. It is on my dining room table now. Not sure what my wife is going to say about that. My wife is remarkably patient as well. LOL.

I collected calcite in Southern Ontario on the Niagara Escarpment yesterday. Here is one sample: And to answer the question "Is it fluorescent"? I tried UVA, UVB and UVC and surprisingly the answer is "No" I would love to add a specimen like that to my collection. That is a beautiful piece, sir!

Paul, those are some amazing pictures! I love seeing the areas rocks come from (as well as seeing the rocks!). What a fantastic sounding family road trip...it took me back to the times our family piled in the station wagon and hit the road...Coleman cooler in the "way" back held our meals for the trip...fun times! Thank you, sir! Glad you liked the pics. Love road trips as well, like you, the bring back a lot of memories.

Still catching up. Our 2017 Summer vacation took us through the national parks in UT, using Cedar City as our base. My wife and I did this trip some 23 years ago (pre-kids) and decided to take the boys back and retrace our steps. One addition, though, was making a stop in the road cuts and hills around Brian Head to collect agates. The area is beautiful but in Summer, subject to monsoon/thunderstorm in the afternoons. Collecting along a couple of the roads: Tried to drag this one home but it wouldn't fit in the car... Stopped at Cedar Breaks as well as many other National Parks: Eventually got around to cutting two of the finds. The rest I have to dig out of the shed. Both shown wet. Exterior: Interior: Exterior: Interior: This last one has been on the vib lap for about four days at the first stage (45/70). Thanks for checking out the thread Paul
