his house is a museum! How cool is that? Some great specimens I'd like to see up close and personal. Mike do ya have to take a towel with you when you visit (for all the drool)? Awesome!

I just love it when you post trip reports, they are always part tutorial and I learn so much. That is spectacular and fascinating. Can't wait to see photos of what you brought back. Bets the boat ran a lot lower in the water on the return trip if all of you were loaded down like that! Thanks for this thread!

Viet Nam 1967, China early Tang dynasty, loads of possibilities. Those lily ponds could become rice paddies.... keep us posted!

He says the green and purple is a jasper, he sent me a polished/cabbed piece too, and it is hard and shiny throughout, just beautiful. Wish my camera could take better close ups, I tried to get several of the other pieces too, all really beautiful!

wow, lots of miles involved. Glad you got to get out and hunt. Beautiful country, Arizona sunsets the best, and steak for supper every night has my vote... Thank you for taking us with. I love seeing rock 'as found' in places I've never been. Great trip, photos and post.

Pictures of the new finds? - can't wait to see. Hunting seems to be pretty good out there! I was intrigued by the comment that it was cool at 90 degrees... WOW. totally different world.

wow, you could count the feathers! My old prehistoric camera is about to bite the dust, I wonder how good the radar is here... I've never tested it. My sister swears it is better to beg forgiveness than to beg for permission, but I like living.... Those are gorgeous photos!

I admired some of his latest finds and he graciously sent me a box of goodies. There are wonderful things here, and I don't have a clue except that they are agates and jaspers. Maybe we can get names for a few, but even without, these are beautiful things to behold!
beautiful colors and patterns!
quartz with ? awesome!
one more because I just find this stuff irresistible!
Thanks deserthound, so much, for the rainbow treasures, truly gems, so generous of you! I love them!

thought those looked like Michigan rocks! Great shine, nice variety. Looks like a fun place to get tumbling sized rocks. So many rocks so little time!

lots of awesome info here in this thread. So cool to think North America had ELEPHANTS! I think trilobites and snails are about the biggest fossils found near Alpena usually, unless you count thrombolites and stromatolite formations which can be huge. Devonian era was a little before Mastodon and Mammoth's time.
