mountainmanent, That looks like an HP combo unit I was restoring. It had a single motor to drive the saw & wheels. There are 2 knobs that you adjust to direct the motor to either side of the "transmission". I never finished refurbing it before I sold it so I could move. I had another, more modern HP machine for my next project. I'd love to see some closeups of the drive system from underneath. Pretty please! Lynn

Thanks, Bill for saying nice things about our work. Pics when I have more free time.
There's a building just north of the Coliseum within walking distance. Walk under the freeway. It has a few vendors with mass produced stuff from Madagascar, India etc. There was a guy from Minnesota there that had great Laguna Lace with reds - $4 & $7/lb. He also had good Mookaite & Noreena jasper for $4/lb. Another guy in the building was from Moab & had good Gem Dino Bone. Lynn

Last year I spent my time at the Coliseum, & its parking lot & at the InterGem show at the Mart (my wife bought lots of beads). There was a show at the Ramada & a hotel across the street. There were some vendors at the Ramada that we bought from, but mostly it was mineral specimens sold out of individual hotel rooms. I hear that the Ramada won't host any dealers this year. Not sure what was at the other hotel. I only bought a drill system there. There's a show at the mart that costs to get in. I didn't go to that one. There are a couple of other shows scattered around Denver. Google is your friend. Lynn

It's always best if you can get to a rock show & buy in person. Can you make it to Quartzite in Jan? The Denver show is the second week in Sept. Larger towns even have small shows that are great sources of rough & slabs. Lynn

Since you're coming from the north, go to Topaz Mtn. You WILL find Topaz. Lots or a little depending on how long you stay & how much you want to work. There is a pay dig for $25 if you want. They chew out some of the mountain, saving you from lots of digging & breaking. Dugway geodes are found close to Topaz Mtn. I've never been, but the club goes every year.
I need a Holt Canyon fix. I may go if you want to go there again. Lynn

I never dress. I do all of my slabbing naked. Whoops, I misread the question.
I never dress my blade. If you have to dress a blade, there is something causing glazing over of the metal. Fix that problem. Lortone has a slow & fast feed drive for their 12 & 14" saws. The fast one often feeds faster than the blade can cut, so it glazes over. Lynn

coloradocliff, I've noticed that you have been posting some pix. Good for you! It seems that many of them have intense colors, like unnaturally so. Could you be using a camera setting that says "Vivid" or something like that? Poke around the settings & see if you can dial the colors back to "Real world". Lynn

If you remember a while back, I sold a huge batch of Turquoise cabs for an older gentleman to help him out. He called me this morning wanting to come by the shop with "A few more things" he found in his garage. He had over 4 pounds of Turquoise rough and showed me a sample of about 50 pounds of Spencer Opal rough he collected many, many years ago. I just spent over a grand on vehicle repairs, so gave him a deposit to hold everything for me until pay day next month. He convinced me to come to his house and look at other stones and his lapidary equipment. All but the Opal and Turquoise will be sold at the auction next Saturday, so I will raid the piggy bank and hope I can score some of the things he has. Gem Tech 7 wheel 4 inch Opal machine much like a Pixie Raytech 4 inch trim saw Some type of flat lap/faceting machine 10 inch trim saw Older two wheel polishing machine Older S/C grinding unit. 4 wheel 6 inch I think Larger and quite old slab saw, 14 inch I think. It was pretty covered with boxes, so couldn't investigate much. lots of misc slabs and small rough If there is any interest in the equipment, I may be able to buy it at auction, but shipping would be high on the saws. I will likely sell some of the smaller Turquoise and half or more of the Opal. If I buy any of the slabs I will likely sell most of those also I'm interested in the 7 wheel Gem Tech & the 10" saw. I'll bookmark this & wait for more info. Lynn

eBay is being weird for me today too. From All Lists, I click on eBay Bucks. It goes right back to the page I'm on. We'll see if it's better tomorrow. Lynn

www.potterybarn.com/products/framed-agates-wall-art/?catalogId=83You order a stone based on a generic catalog photo You pick the color & see what arrives in the mail. The sad thing is, many people love this kind of thing. I'm not sure if they think the color is natural. I guess some people like store brand Cola & some like Coke. There was a mall store called Black Market Minerals. They had lots of dyed Brazilian bookends, slabs & maybe clocks too. They also had some cool stuff like the first Moqui Marbles I'd seen, undyed mini Brazilian slabs, tons of fossils, & meteorites. Lynn

Back to work! Sad to hear. You were enjoying retirement. Can't the government do something about that? I thought this was America, the land of free stuff! Give that man a UBI - Universal Basic Income. Lynn
